Important Filings and Due Dates

Staying on top of your annual requirements can be quite the overwhelming task. Collected here is a summary of everything that may be expected of you in a given year, along with important due dates, resources, and other notes to keep you organized.

Important Dates for 2016

Individual Deadlines
– 2015 Federal Form 1040 Individual Income Tax Return: Must be post-marked or extended by Monday, April 18th, 2016
– Extended 2015 Form 1040 Deadline: Must be post-marked by Monday, October 17th, 2016

Business Deadlines
– 2015 Federal Form 1065 Partnership Income Tax Return: Must be post-marked or extended by Monday, April 18th, 2016, or 3.5 months from the close of the fiscal year
– Extended 2015 Form 1065 Deadline: Must be post-marked by Monday, October 17th, 2015, or 6 months from the due date of the non-extended return
– 2015 Federal Form 1120/1120S Corporate Income Tax Return: Must be post-marked or extended by Tuesday, March 15th, 2016, or 3.5 months from the close of the fiscal year
– Extended 2015 Form 1065 Deadline: Must be post-marked by Thurday, September 15th, 2016, or 6 months from the due date of the non-extended return

In addition, all Washington State businesses must file Excise Tax returns with the State Department of Revenue. Specific deadlines vary, as the DOR is free to assign monthly/quarterly/annual reporting requirements to any business. Please contact us for more information about these taxes.

Payroll Deadlines
– Federal Form 941: Due on the business day nearest the last day of the month following the end of the given calendar quarter (4/30; 7/31; 10/31; 1/31)
– Federal Form 940: Due on the business day nearest January 31, 2016. However, a federal tax deposit must be made by the last day of the month following the end of any given calendar quarter wherein the total liability exceeds $500.
– Washington Employment Security Report: Due on the business day nearest the last day of the month following the end of the given calendar quarter (4/30; 7/31; 10/31; 1/31)
– Washington Labor & Industries Report: Due on the business day nearest the last day of the month following the end of the given calendar quarter (4/30; 7/31; 10/31; 1/31)

Payroll tax deposits of FICA and other items through EFTPS have variable due dates depending upon the specific employer. Please contact us for more information on these items.
